Diver Duck Hunting on Lake Erie
During the early spring, walleye migrate to Lake Erie’s south shore reefs and streams to spawn, particularly the Camp Perry Firing Range. During this time we mostly employ Vertical Jigging with Hair Jigs to catch the fish. The post spawn normally happens in late May and walleye can be found concentrated in the Western Basin off the Lake Erie Islands in Ohio. This is when we switch to Drift Casting, Bottom Bouncing or Trolling as our main method of catching Walleye. The rest of the year, walleye may be found in the deep waters of Lake Erie's Central Basin, near the Canadian border and Trolling yields the biggest catches but they can be caught Drift Casting and Bottom Bouncing this time of year as well. All though spring and fall are considered the peak seasons for walleye fishing, this is not the case with Lake Erie. The abundance of Walleye in Lake Erie provides anglers ample opportunities to catch fish year round.
Year-Round Fishing and Hunting Trips
Walleye Charters
Perch Charters
Lake Erie Perch are not picky eaters, especially when they're in a feeding frenzy. Most of the time we use Emerald Shiners but they can be caught using other live baits: insect larvae (think maggots), night crawlers, wax worms and grubs can be effective. Perch also go for cut bait like crayfish meat and perch eyes. When using minnows or shiners, try hooking them through the tail rather than through the mouth; they'll provide more action, and that's what you need to attract the big guys.
